For years now, people have held onto the notion that machines will replace humans. This misplaced myth cannot be farther from the truth. What we can be sure about is that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will develop and play a significant role in our day-to-day lives. AI is not to be confused with machine learning but often people do so. The trends in AI may be very hard to predict accurately but here are some plausible expectations we can have.
- AI in Banking – One of the best ways in which AI can be utilized is to help financial institutions. It can be used to eliminate monotonous and repetitive tasks leaving employees to use their time on more focused matters. AI can also help regulate customer transactions and identification which can be easy mistakes for humans to make. Every year we hear about scams that rob innocent people of their hard-earned money and sometimes scammers get away with it. There is continued research being done in this area about how AI can prevent fraud.
- AI in Law Enforcement – Every country around the world has their share of crime and AI has been looked upon as a possible solution. With this technology, the police can locate missing persons and keep tabs on criminal activities. A lot of countries have been working to implement facial recognition in their traffic systems among other security buildings. We can also expect AI to transition its way into the military. It could be used to regulate weaponry, training and battle logistics. One day, this may very well lead to an AI arms race.
- AI in Healthcare – Amid COVID-19, we have seen some form of development in which AI has been used effectively to keep people safe. We have seen apps that display hotspots for people tested positive for coronavirus. The public can scan this information to judge whether certain geographical areas are safe to visit or not. AI can also be used to accurately diagnose diseases such as coronavirus or cancer. This can make a huge difference in saving lives as we lose thousands of lives each year due to misdiagnoses.
These trends could significantly help our society in many ways. Some of these technologies are already in motion or at least being researched. Although there are many more AI trends that we can predict, these seem like the most plausible and could be realities in the near future.
